A Little About James AKA JavaJamez
Hello there, Im James. Welcome to my new website and for taking the time to read this small section. I would like to tell you about my myself and the journey that has lead me to this moment in time.
I am a retired Chef trying to live the dream in Thailand. Like so many expats, I am really finding it a roller-coaster. Why Thailand? and why photography? I fell into photography because of a bet over a holiday photo DVD purchased from my late Uncle Raymond on a recent trip he took to Greece.
The images were very poor, out of focus, grainy and just awful. I said tongue in cheek “I can do better,” even though I had no photographic experience what so ever. So a bet between Raymond and I was established. I headed off to a local camera store and invested about, $3000 on photography equipment I knew nothing about.

My first camera was a Canon 450D, and to the delight of the manager, I also purchased an array of lenes, tripods and flashes. That Said, the gentleman give me something more valuable than the equipment. He pointed me towards a local camera club. Within six months of joining I believed I had enough practical experience to set upon my quest of producing a tourist DVD that would win the bet.
Start of an Epic Journey
I have a fond affection for the Maltese Islands having visited them almost every year for the past two decades. If you’ve not been to Malta and love history, it is worth a visit. The DVD took four months to produce, and I sold over three thousand copies at three Euros each. Mission accomplished?
Finding Comfort in Loss
During my great photography adventure I lost my Uncle Raymond to prostate cancer. I never knew time was not on my side, and I found myself not being able to say goodbye to him. Grief is a troublesome burden and time heals. I found comfort in photography a gift from a wonderful man. Hense, my photographic journey is continually evolving.
And what was the Bet? Fifty pence the equivalent to about sixty cents.
